Research Assistant (Low-voltage, high-speed thin film devices and circuits) / Tutkimusapulainen

Together, Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences form a higher education community that places faith in people and scientific knowledge. Leading experts in the fields of technology, health and society are changing the world at Finland’s second largest multidisciplinary higher education institution.

We have a position opening for a Research Assistant (M.Sc. thesis worker) at the Laboratory for Future Electronics (LFE) within our Academy  Project “HiFlex”, targeting low voltage, RF compatible thin film circuitry incorporating printing and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD).

Laboratory for Future Electronics

LFE investigates technologies and solutions related to energy-autonomy (storage and harvesting), sensors, conformably wearable electronics (soft/stretchable, on-skin, textile), and hybrid system integration. Strong emphasis is placed on scalable, low-cost manufacturing methods such as printing as well as the integration of printed components and circuits with more conventional component assembly methods. LFE explores new device and circuit approaches based on printable organic and metal oxide semiconductors.

LFE is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for flexible and thin-film electronics, including a wide range of precision printing machines, an integrated inert environment cluster tool incorporating printing, coating, vacuum evaporation, ALD and characterization, and a full range of characterization tools.

Job Description

There are two possible topics, one of which will be selected based on the selected candidate’s skill and preferences:

1.      Organic tunnel diodes and circuits based on them (e.g. voltage-controlled oscillator, memory)
2.      Low-voltage, RF capable thin film transistors

Requirements

The candidate should have completed most of their courses and be close to finishing her/his M.Sc. studies at Tampere University or a university with an exchange arrangement with Tampere University. Suitable fields of study are electrical engineering, electronics, physics or materials science. A high level of motivation, excellent English skills, willingness to perform multifaceted experimental work and enthusiasm about working in an international multidisciplinary team are expected.

We offer

The position is full-time for a fixed term of 8 months and will start on or after 4 May 2020 The exact starting time will be negotiated individually. Trial period applies to all new employees.
