The Industrial Engineering and Management Unit (IEM) is recruiting a senior research fellow. IEM is part of the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) at Tampere University and offers education in the fields of engineering at the BSc, MSc and doctoral levels. Researchers at IEM are known for their broad and multidisciplinary collaboration that addresses the latest societal challenges. We take part in multidisciplinary projects with the different faculties and research groups at Tampere University and actively collaborate with other Finnish and international universities and research institutes.

The unifying theme of research at the IEM Unit is sustainable value creation in technology-driven organisations, through which our research is linked to four major global challenges: increasing complexity, changes in the logic of value creation, the need for sustainable development and social change. Our five research groups specialise in the following research areas:

• Innovation and Technology Strategy
• Operations and Supply Chain Management
• Safety Management and Engineering

Job description

 The senior research fellow will join the Industrial Engineering and Management Unit and its Project and Service Management (CROPS) research group. The successful candidate will perform the following tasks in her/his respective area of expertise: 

• apply and secure external funding for own research activities and for activities of others working in the research group
• work towards forming own subteam (with funding secured in the position) to further strengthen the research group
• carry out independent research of high quality and manage research projects 
• teach courses offered by the unit, in particular in the area of project business
• supervise students writing their theses
• participate in other activities of the unit and the research group

The senior research fellow’s specific teaching and research orientation will be discussed and agreed with the candidate during the recruitment process. 

Requirements

• track record of independent scholarly activity in project business and/or temporary organising
• doctoral degree in industrial engineering and management or equivalent
• ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
• strong competences in teaching in the area of project business and/or temporary organising

The position of senior research fellow requires a minimum of one year of post-doctoral research experience, a strong publication record and previous involvement in acquiring research funding. We appreciate experience of working with companies. We expect the candidate to be committed to delivering high-quality teaching and have a serious intent to develop as a member of an international scientific community. The position requires fluency in the English language. Finnish language skills are considered as an advantage.

We offer

The position will be filled on a permanent basis. The planned starting date is 15 August 2024 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months will apply.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a senior research fellow is placed on the job demand levels 6-7 (teaching and research staff). A typical starting salary is around 4300-4600 €/month.

Tuotantotalouden yksikkö hakee yliopistotutkijaa. Tuotantotalouden yksikkö on osa Tampereen yliopiston johtamisen ja talouden tiedekuntaa ja se tarjoaa tekniikan tutkinto-ohjelmia kaikilla tutkintotasoilla. Haettavana oleva yliopistotutkijan tehtävä pitää sisällään valittavan henkilön osaamisprofiilin mukaisesti ja rekrytointiprosessin aikana käytävien keskustelujen perusteella seuraavia osa-alueita:

• rahoituksen hakeminen omaan sekä muiden tutkimusryhmän jäsenten työskentelyyn
• esihenkilönä toimiminen, pyrkimys oman alitiimin perustamiseen tehtävässä haetulla rahoituksella
• itsenäinen tutkimustyö ja tutkimusprojektien johtaminen
• vastuuopettajuus yksikön tarjoamilla kursseilla, erityisesti projektiliiketoiminnan alueella 
• opiskelijoiden opinnäytteiden ohjaaminen
• muu osallistuminen yksikön ja oman tutkimusryhmän toimintaan.

Vaatimukset tehtävään valittavalta henkilöltä:

• Näyttöjä tieteellisestä tutkimustyöstä projektiliiketoiminnan ja/tai väliaikaisen organisoinnin alalta
• Tohtorintutkinto tuotantotalouden tekniikan ja johtamisen alalta tai vastaava tutkinto
• Kyky johtaa tutkimusryhmää ja hankkia täydentävää rahoitusta
• Vahva opetusosaaminen projektiliiketoiminnan ja/tai väliaikaisen organisoinnin alalla

Tehtävään vaaditaan vähintään vuoden kokemus tohtorin tutkinnon jälkeisestä tutkimuksesta, vahva julkaisutoiminta ja aiempaa osallistumista tutkimusrahoituksen hankkimiseen. Arvostamme kokemusta yritysten kanssa työskentelystä. Odotamme, että hakija on sitoutunut antamaan korkeatasoista opetusta ja että hänellä on vakaa halu kehittyä tutkijana ja kansainvälisen tiedeyhteisön jäsenenä. Tehtävä edellyttää sujuvaa englannin kielen taitoa. Suomen kielen taito katsotaan eduksi.
